They say a smile is a whisper of a laugh and I never really understood the saying. Why smile if you really want to laugh? Today I saw, first hand, the meaning of this saying.
Since the first time I saw my precious Mac and Lincoln on a 4D ultrasound I was in love. I dreamed the dreams that many moms-to-be dream but mostly, I couldnt wait to see my sweet babies smile. From the day of their birth I have watched them sleeping, for hours on end, enjoying their sweet unknowing smiles. As much as I enjoyed the sleepy smiles I couldnt stop thinking of the day that they would see me, being the silly geek that I am dancing around them, and break out in a true "What on earth is this woman doing?" smile. Every day I tell Ryan how I dance and sing, I do the Wii for them thinking they will get a kick out of my post pregnancy "chubby girl workout", I talk about the dorky things I did when I was little and in return I get nothing. I was beginning to wonder how long I could continue without the reinforcement I so desired, a smile across the faces of my beautiful boys. This morning, Lincoln was sound asleep and Mac and I were rocking in the chair while he cried. At a loss as to how to make my sweet return to my sweet I layed him on my legs and began talking...Mac continued to cry. I grab his little chubby hands and said "I dont know what to do Macadoodle so the options are to swing in your swing or watch the Housewives of NJ with Mommy" and began clapping his hand together and asking "Whats it gonna be, whats it gonna be, whats it gonna be..." and to my complete amazement my little sweet broke out into the the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. A few hours later I attempted to capture this amazing smile to share with those who arent here to witness it first hand. Although Mac struggles to fully smile, you can see his intention and the focus he has trying to accomplish it. Even better, my little Irish man turns red trying to force out the smile. Its truly is the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. (He also "coo-ed" at the end of the video, one of the first!)
